Why am I so passionate about "THE WHY"?

If my pitchers don’t understand the meaning behind a drill, a movement, a pattern, they won’t be able to buy into it 100%.  I quiz my girls. “Why do we do this? Can you teach this to her? Who can explain the purpose behind this drill?”

If my girls can’t answer those questions, we pause and reevaluate the WHY. 

This is so important. If you just do something because your coach asks you, and you don’t know the meaning behind it, you’re doing a disservice to yourself and your coach is doing a disservice to you. Yes, I believe in being coachable 100%. But, coaches have to be coachable as well. They have to be able to explain something in multiple ways for all the girls to understand. 

What I love about the Pitching University is that Coach E explains the why behind every movement, pattern, and concept of the human body. He explains the science behind everything he teaches to his coaches and his clients. 

Now, my brain sometimes doesn’t think “science”. I think real-life situations. Real-life movements. My girls have been learning about chest/shoulder separation for the last 2-3 weeks. Now the science behind this concept sometimes goes over my pitcher's head & my head. But, since Coach Esia gave me a wonderful “why” behind this concept, I’ve been able to teach my girls this concept using swimming and tennis examples. Once I showed the movements with this concept through other sports, my girls were able to understand why it’s important we do the same movements with pitching for maximum velocity within our shoulder and chest. 

I’ve transformed all my “Pitching Drills” into movement drills and then added pitching stuff to them. Why? Because my girls understand these movements. They feel it. They see it. They can make connections with pitching.
